Apple codling moth (Laspeyresia pomonella = Cydia pomonella)

In June, the larvae of the first generation cause damage. They feed on the seeds and the seed capsule, completely destroying it. One larva damages 2-3 fruits. The damaged young fruits fall off, and mould develops in their core. The damage often remains unnoticed due to the natural June fruit drop. After completing its feeding, the larva leaves the damaged fruit. It descends on a silken thread or crawls along the trunk and forms a cocoon in the cracks of the bark, in which it pupates. The larvae of the second generation codling moth are extremely dangerous for fruit trees in August. They usually cause massive worm infestation of the fruits. We recommend that growers obtain information from the local plant protection services, which monitor the development of pests by regions.

Pest control strategy

Chemical treatment is carried out against the hatching larvae, before they bore into the fruits, at an economic injury level (EIL) for the first generation of 0.8-1% fresh entries in the fruits.
