Meadow fescue /Festuca pratensis/ is a tall, loosely tufted grass that thrives well in areas with more humid soils. Fescue is a weedy meadow-type species and emerges in the autumn before or simultaneously with rapeseed; therefore, according to its biological classification, it belongs to the group of winter-annual and spring species. It is frost-resistant, grows early in the spring, and withstands both early and late cold spells. It is tolerant of frequent but high mowing, after which it regrows rapidly. It is not very demanding with respect to climate and soil. It is recommended only in mixtures for turfing sites with special purposes and for meadow-type lawns. Due to its coarse leaf mass and insufficient ground cover, it is unsuitable for high-quality park lawns.
