As of 2018, the government will grant scholarships for the education of students in degree programmes for which there is a shortage of experts in the state administration. The list of specialities in which young professionals may apply for a monthly allowance will be updated annually on the proposal of the administrations experiencing a need for specialists. Agricultural sciences are also part of the compiled list. In parallel with the state scholarships, the “Evrika” Foundation is launching for the fifteenth consecutive year its competition for students in 10 different fields, including veterinary sciences and forestry.
A scholarship programme has been launched in Bulgaria, which will provide financial support to students after completion of their third year of study. The programme is regulated by the Civil Servant Act, the Council of Ministers points out. Future professionals from the following specialities will be supported: agricultural sciences, civil engineering, geodesy, information systems and technologies, and public administration. The aim of the programme is to attract employees to the state administration, which suffers from a severe shortage of new specialists.
The monthly remuneration of the students will not exceed BGN 330 and will be determined according to the budget of the respective authority. All students who are Bulgarian citizens and have successfully completed the third year of a degree programme included in the list for 2018 will be eligible to apply. The selection is carried out by a commission in the respective administration in three stages – document screening, written examination and interview.
The approved scholarship holders will have a mentor during the implementation of the programme and will be obliged to work in the respective structure for a minimum of three years after completing their education.
