Status of wheat crops in the Sadovo region

In mid-March in Southern Bulgaria, the cereal crops have successfully overwintered and no conditions for frost damage or injury from low temperatures have been observed. As of the current moment (12.03.2026), the phytosanitary condition of the wheat crops in the Sadovo region is good. The wheat is in the tillering stage, which is proceeding under normal conditions and with sufficient soil moisture availability. Cases of yellowing in barley are being observed due to nutrient deficiency.

Some incidence of diseases and pests is being recorded. With the increase in average daily temperatures, the appearance and spread of the following diseases is expected: Septoria leaf blotch, powdery mildew, and brown rust. These pathogens are encountered annually in the wheat crops of Sadovo and special attention must be paid to them in order to achieve optimal yields. Monitoring is also being conducted for the appearance of pests above the economic threshold. For most farmers, the spring fertilization of the crops has been carried out or is currently underway.

The agro-meteorological conditions at this moment are stable and there is a prerequisite for the high-quality execution of pre-sowing tillage on the areas intended for sowing with early spring crops (vetch, peas, spring barley). The soils are well-supplied with moisture. We hope there will be no late frosts at the end of March and beginning of April, which could negatively affect the formation of yield components.
