Fig Festival in the village of Vetren Dol

This year’s edition of the Festival will take place on 21 September (Saturday) 2024, on the square in front of the community centre in the village of Vetren Dol, Municipality of Septemvri.

For 11 years now, the “Kultura-1910” Community Centre, Vetren Dol, has been organizing the Fig Festival in September.

The event will start at 10:30 a.m. with a workshop on the preparation of trahana with Temenuzhka Mateva, one of the guardians of the trahana-making tradition.

Until 13:30, those wishing to participate in the culinary competition for dishes with figs will be able to present them to the jury at the “Kultura – 1910” Community Centre.

Traditionally, a competition for the best homemade fig rakia will also be held.

The folklore programme will start at 15:00 with performances by amateur singers, dancers and ensembles.

Guests will have the opportunity to taste and purchase all fig specialties and beverages.

Vetren Dol is one of the settlements in Southern Bulgaria, in Pazardzhik Region, where figs thrive very well. The geographical location and climate are favourable for the cultivation of the fig (Ficus carica L.). Figs have been grown in the village for nearly a century, and in recent years fig trees have been growing in almost every village yard. Therefore, local people make a variety of products from figs – from jams and preserves to liqueurs and rakia.
