In November, agrometeorological conditions will be determined by temperatures and precipitation around and above the climatic norms.
The scarce precipitation and unusually high temperatures in October led to a deepening of the existing drought. In mid-autumn, the soil moisture reserves in the 50 cm layer are completely depleted, and in part of the arable regions productive moisture is absent throughout the entire one-metre soil layer. In many parts of the country, due to the unfavourable conditions, the pre-sowing tillage of areas intended for sowing with autumn crops was postponed, and the agrotechnical deadlines for the sowing of winter cereal crops were missed.
In the event of delayed sowing, it is generally recommended to increase the seeding rate by between 5 and 10% in order, if productive tillering is lacking, to maintain the number of ears per square metre so that yields are preserved,“ shares Chief Assistant Alexiev from IRGR “K. Malkov” in Sadovo for Nivabg.com.
During the first ten-day period of November, a gradual, positive change in agrometeorological conditions is expected. At the beginning of the month, precipitation is forecast, as well as an improvement in the water-physical condition of the upper soil layer and in the conditions for carrying out seasonal soil tillage and the delayed autumn sowing.
Precipitation of economic significance and an increase in the soil moisture reserves in the 50 cm soil layer are expected in the second half of November. During this period, the initial phases of vegetation of the sown autumn crops will take place at above-normal mean daily temperatures. At the end of November, different phases will be observed in wheat and barley – from emergence to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd leaf.
During the month, no critical minimum temperatures are forecast for winter cereal crops in the emergence phase.
In November, more suitable conditions for planting fruit trees and for carrying out autumn plant protection spraying in fruit crops, aimed at limiting infections of scab, early brown rot, shot-hole disease, peach leaf curl and other overwintering pathogens, will occur during the second ten-day period and at the end of the month.
