Farmers may submit applications to the Municipal Agriculture Offices for conducting on-site inspections to assess damage from frost/ freezing in fruit orchards, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.
As a result of the negative minimum temperatures recorded at the end of March 2023, ranging between -2º and -6ºC, which are critical for fruit species that have entered the flowering stage, serious damage (80-100%) to fruit trees has been observed.
In this regard, farmers who have affected orchards may submit applications for inspection and assessment of the damage to the Municipal Agriculture Offices at the location of the properties, within 10 working days from the occurrence of the event.
Given the specifics of the development of fruit species and the need for more than one inspection, the inspections by the standing expert commissions will be carried out within a period of 3 to 4 weeks after submission of the application by the farmer.
In this way, an accurate assessment of the percentage of damage caused by the low temperatures will be possible.
