At the end of November – suitable conditions for planting fruit trees

At the end of November, a significant change in agrometeorological conditions is expected. During most days of the period, the mean daily temperatures will be below the climatic norms and below the biological minimum required for the vegetation of winter cereal crops. The forecasted cold spell at the end of November will lead to a slowdown, and in the higher fields, where snowfall is expected, to a cessation of vegetative processes in winter cereal crops. As a result of the prolonged autumn drought, a large part of the stands are in an initial stage of their development. At the end of November, the following phases will be observed in wheat and barley: emergence, 1st-2nd-3rd leaf, and the beginning of tillering only in a small part of the stands at individual locations in the Danube Plain (Novachene agrometeorological station).

The expected precipitation during the period will increase the level of soil moisture reserves in the 50 cm layer. The precipitation that occurred at the end of the second and the beginning of the third ten-day period of November, 30 – 40 l/m² (N. selo - 82 l/m², Vidin - 76 l/m², Lom - 51 l/m², Pleven - 51 l/m², Svishtov - 57 l/m², Shumen - 40 l/m², Silistra - 40 l/m²,  Dragoman - 67 l/m², Sandanski - 58 l/m²), improved soil moisture reserves and in most of the field areas the moisture deficit in winter cereal crops was overcome.

During the following period as well, the increased moisture content in the upper soil layers will limit the implementation of seasonal soil tillage. There will be suitable conditions for planting fruit trees at the end of November.
