European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan presented yesterday the overall aid package, amounting to 420 million euros. Bulgaria will receive 6 million euros in support for the crisis in the dairy sector. This became clear during the informal meeting of the Council of the European Union on Agriculture and Fisheries in Luxembourg, announced the Ministry of Agriculture. The interests of our country were personally represented by Minister Desislava Taneva: "It is extremely important that the funds are not from the crisis budget, but an additional resource that must immediately support farmers. We appreciate that some of the proposals we made as far back as December last year, when we raised the issue of the crisis in the dairy sector, we see reflected in the package."
All 28 member states will receive significant aid worth a total of 420 million €, distributed in a fair, targeted and effective manner to address the problems in the Milk and Pigmeat sectors, Hogan stated.
The other measures include new Private Storage Aid schemes for milk and dairy products and pigmeat, as well as the possibility for advance payments of direct payments.
The countries that benefit the most from the direct aid for milk and pigmeat producers promised by the European Commission are Germany (69.2 million euros) and France (62.9 million euros).
Approximately 30 million euros will be released under a program for distributing European milk to refugees.
