At the annual exhibition, part of the Open Day at the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven, held on 29 August, traditional and new table grape varieties were presented.

The exhibition was organized for the first time jointly with the Agricultural University in Plovdiv, the Institute of Agriculture and Seed Science "Obraztsov chiflik" – Ruse, and the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil.
The good news for all growers who have plantings with the following varieties – Naslada, Slava, Trapezitsa, Kaylashki Rubin and Plevenska Rosa is that they can now register their wines as varietal, because these varieties have been entered in the List of Classified Wine Grape Varieties of the EAVW.
Climate change is increasingly directing scientific research towards the breeding of new varieties that are resistant not only to diseases but also to extreme climatic conditions such as prolonged periods of drought. An example of such a variety is Kaylashki Rubin, a medium to late ripening red wine variety, obtained through interspecific hybridization by crossing (Pamid x Hybrid VI 2/15) x (Gamay Noir x Vitis amurensis) at the Experimental Field of the Institute of Viticulture and Enology – Pleven.
In the region of the town of Pleven, the grapes of the Kaylashki Rubin variety ripen at the end of September and the beginning of October. The vines are characterized by very good vigour and ripening of the one-year-old shoots. They possess very high resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, grey rot and low winter temperatures. Its grapes are suitable for the production of quality red wines suitable for ageing. Due to its increased resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors, the variety is suitable for cultivation in all viticultural regions of the country. It can also be used for the production of organic wines.
