The 2015 Forum for the Future of Agriculture is being held for the 8th time in Brussels on March 31.
This year, the agenda for the discussions at the Forum for the Future of Agriculture will address the new UN Sustainable Development Goals, which include European agriculture. The Forum will focus on open debates about the future of European and global agriculture in an environment that guarantees food security and a clean environment. Experts from various countries will provide objective assessments and analyses of the state of the agricultural sector.
In several panels on March 31, issues such as building systems to end poverty, managing environmental risk in agriculture, as well as innovations and technologies for growth and creating new jobs will be addressed. The European Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan, will participate in the first panel, where from 9:20 AM to 10:30 AM, sustainable agriculture within the framework of food security and nutrition will be discussed.
The Forum has become a traditional conference, established as a meeting place for the European agricultural elite: European Commissioners, Members of the European Parliament, ministers, sector leaders, as well as non-governmental and international organizations like the FAO and OECD discuss together the challenges in the agricultural sector in Europe.
In 2015, the then Chairman of the Forum for Agriculture, Franz Fischler, stepped down after 7 years of collaboration and passed the chair to Janez Potočnik (European Commissioner for the Environment 2010 – 2014).
In March 2008, the European Landowners' Organization ELO and Syngenta came together and created a new forum in which the future of agriculture is considered from a European perspective.
