Breeders from the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven were entered in the “Golden Book” of patents

At a solemn ceremony for the inscription of Bulgarian breeders and inventors in the "Golden Book" of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, President Rumen Radev, who was also the host of the event, honored prominent Bulgarian scientists who have contributed to the progress of science in Bulgaria. The Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven, which has created over 10 new grape varieties, deservedly received the award for Breeder of the Year in the "Golden Book" of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria.
“Our aspiration for Bulgaria to be a prosperous and modern state can be achieved only with respect and gratitude towards scientists and inventors, towards the people of progress and science,” stated President Rumen Radev at the solemn ceremony for the inscription of Bulgarian discoverers and inventors in the "Golden Book" of the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, established in 1981. The solemn ceremony, which marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the initiative, founded on the occasion of the 1300th anniversary of the creation of the Bulgarian state, was held in the Coat of Arms Hall at "Dondukov" 2. The "Golden Book" of the Patent Office is opened once a year in order to be supplemented with the names of the most prominent Bulgarian discoverers and inventors. So far, it has recorded more than 130 names of distinguished Bulgarian scientists, inventors and breeders.
This year the awardees are Assoc. Prof. Eng. Stoyan Gishin, whose invention halves the production time of accumulators and significantly reduces the harmful impact on the environment, as well as the authors’ team from the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven, which has created over 10 new grape varieties. “May every one of your projects bring success to you and to Bulgaria!", wished the Head of State to the awardees.
With their achievements, Bulgarian scientists have contributed to the advancement of our country and to enhancing its prestige, pointed out President Rumen Radev in his address. The Head of State congratulated the Patent Office and the members of the jury for the opportunity to be the first to come into contact with innovation and to evaluate the inventions and discoveries, which contribute to the development of Bulgaria. "Every even small idea, has the potential to contain something revolutionary and new for the world", said the President and added, that authors must be encouraged to uncover the full potential of their ideas, and that support for talented Bulgarian scientists and inventors will contribute to a better innovation environment and to increasing the competitiveness of the country.
On behalf of the awarded authors’ team from the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven, comprising Prof. DSc Mirislav Ivanov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zdravko Nakov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tatyana Yoncheva and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vanyo Khaigurov, the Director of the Institute Prof. DSc Ivan Pachev spoke, who pointed out, that for the second time since 1990. their team has been honored in the "Golden Book" and they regard this as great recognition. The more than 10 vine varieties created by the authors’ team are suitable for the production of environmentally friendly products with lower production costs, characterized by good agrobiological and technological indicators and increased resistance.
