Over the past 25 years, BIOFACH has become the world's largest trade fair for organic products. Traditionally, the fair is held every year in February in Nuremberg, Germany. It is organized under the auspices of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). It all started in 1990 in the town hall of Ludwigshafen, when the fair attracted about 2500 visitors, and the exhibitors were only 197. In 1999, BIOFACH was held for the first time in Nuremberg, where the number of visitors had already grown to 21,000 and exhibitors to 1,276.

The fair is oriented not only towards commercial goals and finding new organic markets but is also fully focused on the consumer, whose taste for alternative agriculture the EU has been trying to awaken in recent years.
