Festival of Fertility in Kyustendil

Welcome to the “Festival of Fertility”, which is held annually in Kyustendil in the autumn. Many surprises await you, delicious fruit from the region and good spirits in thematically selected art studios and beautifully arranged stands with fruit and vegetables.

For another year, Kyustendil Municipality, together with the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil, is organizing the “Festival of Fertility”, which in 2022 will take place from 23 to 25 September. The official opening is on 24 October (Saturday), at 12:00.

The “Festival of Fertility” marks the beginning of autumn in the town of Kyustendil and emphasizes the importance of the town as a leading fruit‑growing region in the country.

This autumn festival of abundance is a legacy of the First National Fruit-Growing Competition, held back in 1896, precisely in the town of Kyustendil. The fruit-growing tradition of the Kyustendil region has been alive through all times and has been passed on as knowledge and culture from generation to generation and from family to family.

The festival has been held annually since 2008, and the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil traditionally presents various apple varieties grown and cultivated in the region.

A rich artistic programme and beautifully arranged stands with fruit and vegetables delight visitors. A competition is held for the most beautifully arranged stand and the largest apple, with participants representing various organizations from across the municipality. Every year, culinary experts from the country take a special part in the event. Guests of the “Festival of Fertility” enjoy sports zones and thematic art studios. Artisans and traders from Kyustendil and the region present their artistic works, while agricultural producers sell their pure and healthy produce directly to consumers.
