The Management Board of the State Fund “Agriculture” has approved BGN 18,000 in de minimis aid for farmers to cover the costs of mandatory control measures for compliance with the quality of the protected designation of origin “Strandzha Forest Honeydew Honey”.

The purpose of the minimal aid is, on the one hand, to support the current producers of honeydew honey and, on the other hand, to attract more new farmers to produce the unique bee elixir. Strandzha honeydew honey has a protected designation of origin and is found only in the area of the Strandzha Mountain. The scheme will help preserve the traditions and livelihood in the region.

Honeydew honey is known for its high content of free amino acids and monosaccharides, which makes it a particularly beneficial natural product. The hallmark of the Strandzha elixir remains its specific dark colour, rich mineral composition and the way it is obtained – from honeydew secreted by the excretory system of certain insect species.

Strandzha Forest Honeydew Honey is now a registered trademark of the European Union

The aid per producer amounts to BGN 1,800 including VAT and is provided to cover the costs of control for compliance with the product specification, including the costs of the mandatory annual on-site inspection by the control body for compliance control and laboratory analysis of the product during the annual inspection carried out.
