Agrometeorological forecast for the end of February

In the middle of the month, the agrometeorological conditions were determined by above-normal temperatures compared to the climatic norms. In the field areas of the country, their average daily values were around and above the biological minimum required for the resumption and progress of vegetation in wheat and barley. Thus, the share of winter cereal crops entering the third leaf growth stage increased.

At the end of February, a sharp drop in temperatures and average daily values below the norms is expected, which will lead to a slowing down and cessation of vegetation in wheat, barley, and rapeseed. The forecast negative minimum temperatures will be above the critical thresholds for the winter agricultural crops. During the period, in wheat and barley, the following growth stages will be observed: leaf formation (beginning of the third leaf stage – Kazanlak, Bazovets, Kneja, and widespread – Haskovo, Pazardzhik), beginning of tillering (Pazardzhik, Nikolaevo) and widespread tillering (Novachene, Pavlikeni, Silistra, Karnobat). In rapeseed, the observed growth stage is rosette formation.

Pome and stone fruit species are at the bud swelling stage. In the southwestern regions of the country (Sandanski), the beginning of sap flow in the vine has been recorded.

The conditions will be suitable for performing soil tillage on the free areas and for top-dressing of autumn-sown crops with nitrogen mineral fertilizers.
