Wine routes

The wine month begins with the celebration of Trifon Zarezan on 1 February at the facility in the land of the village of Brestnik near Plovdiv. Host of the event is the Agricultural University, which has chosen the date on which the Orthodox Church venerates the saint. The guests will be welcomed by the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Hristina Yancheva and the Dean of the Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Braykov.

The celebration will continue with a tasting of the types of wines produced from local grape varieties cultivated in the plantations of the facility.

Among the invited guests are Deputy Prime Minister Mariyana Nikolova, Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Regional Governor Zdravko Dimitrov, mayors of municipalities, Prof. Dr. Lyuben Totev – Chair of the Council of Rectors, rectors of higher education institutions from Plovdiv and the country, over 25 principals of vocational secondary schools, diplomats, business partners. 

 

Melnik

For the third consecutive year, the wineries from the Melnik region will open their doors to wine enthusiasts from 14 to 17 February 2019. The wine producers from this area are joining forces to present not only high-quality regional wine varieties, but also to promote the developing wine tourism in Melnik and the surrounding area.

Urban wine tour in Sofia

You can find out how the vine-growers’ holiday is celebrated in an urban setting from the Sofia neighbourhood Tour de Zarezan, which will be held for the second year on 9 February from 12:00 to 19:00. At five different locations, known for their love of wine, a total of 19 Bulgarian wineries will be hosted. The tastings are completely free of charge and present the individual wineries and their owners.
