The agrometeorological conditions in the country during the second half of January will be determined by weather that is mild for the season. At the end of the second and the beginning of the third ten-day period of January, positive, above-normal average daily temperatures are forecast in the field areas of the country and part of the winter cereal crops, with the exception of the stands in Northwestern Bulgaria, will transition from deep to relative dormancy.
In the southeastern regions, where maximum temperatures of up to 10-12°C are expected, the average daily temperatures will approach the biological minimum required for the resumption of vegetative processes in winter cereal crops.
At the beginning of the third ten-day period of January, the agro-meteorological stations of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) will carry out the first winter inspection to assess the condition of the crops and to identify possible frost damage in winter cereal crops and rapeseed in the regions where critically low negative temperatures below minus 14-15°C have been recorded (Knezha agrometeorological station – minus 20°C). Frost damage of varying degrees is expected in wheat and barley overwintering in the 1-3 leaf stage, as well as in rapeseed stands that failed to form a rosette during their autumn vegetation.
During most days of the period, the conditions will be suitable for carrying out pruning in orchards.
