The humid weather, with frequent showers, creates conditions for the development and infection with fungal diseases in perennial crops and vegetable crops – downy mildew on pepper, tomatoes and potatoes, scab on pome fruit species, brown rot on stone fruits, downy mildew on grapevine.

Until 12 July the weather will continue to be unstable. Short-term but intensive precipitation is expected; the likelihood of hail and the infliction of additional damage to agricultural crops remains. The rainfall at the end of June led to an increase in soil moisture reserves in the 50 cm soil layer and an improvement of the conditions for the development of spring crops – sunflower, maize, beans, soybean, peas. The frequent showers during the following period will hinder the harvesting of wheat, barley and rapeseed.

In maize, the tasseling, silking and silk browning stages will take place. In sunflower, the flowering stage will occur. In leguminous crops, pods will be formed.

The stabilisation of the weather, which is expected after 12 July, will create better conditions for carrying out plant protection spraying against fungal diseases, as well as for continuing the harvesting campaign at an accelerated pace so as to avoid yield loss.
