Super Yields with a Super Premium in Silistra

Better profit with Syngenta’s high-oleic sunflowers

In the past year we faced many market challenges and low purchase prices for sunflower production. In years like this, Syngenta’s high-oleic hybrids are the best solution for improving income from sunflower. In 2017 a large number of farmers from the regions of Ruse and Silistra decided to place their trust in Experto and their hybrid rewarded them in the best possible way – with super yield and a super premium.

In the village of Varnentsi, Silistra district, the agricultural cooperative „Progress“ decided to adopt Syngenta’s technology. Experto, which is extremely suitable for the region, delivered an average yield of 422 kg per decare and, together with the premium for HO sunflower, brought excellent income to the producers.

Experto showed similar results at the agricultural cooperative in the village of Belitsa, „Izgrev 92“ – there the scale recorded an average yield of 400 kg from a 500-decare field. Compared to competing hybrids and technologies, the difference was 80 kg more in favor of Syngenta.     

In Tutrakan, „AC Hristo Botev“ also relied on the potential of Experto and yields of 380 kg per decare pleased the farmers.

In the village of Dunavets, the agricultural cooperative „Dunavets“ decided to trust the genetics of Talento, and the difference compared to competitors was 40 kg more for Syngenta’s hybrid.

In addition to the high-yielding seeds, Syngenta’s crop protection products also contribute to the superiority of Syngenta’s technology.

For a flying start of the sunflower crop, the soil herbicide with the longest residual effect is applied - Gardoprim Plus Gold.

Subsequently, Listego is used for difficult and dangerous weeds such as field bindweed and creeping thistle.

At the bud stage, the best solution for protection against all diseases that have a negative effect on yields and oil content of sunflower is Syngenta’s newest fungicide - Amistar Gold. Amistar Gold contains two active substances with different modes of action, and hence both the preventive and curative effect of the product.

For the third consecutive year, through its „Advantage“ Programme, Syngenta has been providing its partner-farmers with a number of bonuses, including:

• Secured market for production through its partners – Bulgarian vegetable oil producers
• A premium in the range of 40-50 BGN per ton above the market price of sunflower
• Guarantee of a minimum of 82% oleic acid
• Discounts on products from the high-oleic sunflower technology package
• Support for quality control of high-oleic production
• Training and exchange of experience

The yields and premium from 2017 will continue in 2018. Many farmers intend to increase the share of high-oleic sunflower in their fields.
