● Downy mildew of grapevine

Depending on the age of the leaves, downy mildew forms two types of spots: oily and mosaic. On their underside a white sporulating growth is formed. Under heavy attack, the leaves dry up and fall prematurely. Under favourable conditions (relative air humidity above 75%), chlorotic spots are formed on the inflorescences and clusters, on which a white sporulating growth also develops. When the spots are at the base of the bunch, the entire cluster dries out. Infection of the berries stops when, for wine varieties, they reach the size of a „pea, and for table varieties the size of a „bean”.

Strategy for pest control:

Treatments are carried out when favourable conditions for infection occur (air temperature above 13^oC and frequent but light rainfall) and at a susceptible phenophase of the vine „flowering” - „pea size”.

● Grape leaf weevil

The beetles appear at the beginning of May. They feed on buds, flowers and leaves. The females gnaw through the petioles of several young leaves and interrupt the sap flow to them, after which they roll them like a cigar around one central leaf whose petiole is not gnawed, and in it they lay several eggs. The central leaf remains relatively fresh and dries later, and the hatched larvae feed on it.

Strategy for pest control:

When the population density increases, treatments are carried out against the adults before egg laying.
