British politicians in the House of Commons voted on the bill to initiate the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the Union with a dominant 498 votes in favour and only 114 against. The members of the Upper House of Parliament (the House of Lords) must also pronounce on it so that Theresa May can trigger Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, which regulates the procedure for leaving the European Union. Experts foresee that the withdrawal will have a serious impact on the agricultural sector throughout the entire Community.

Following the referendum in June last year, the British gave the go-ahead to the procedure for leaving the European Union. The first stage of the vote passed successfully, to the satisfaction of all supporters of the separation of the United Kingdom from the Union. With a dominant majority of 498 votes against 114, the House of Commons clearly declared its position. The next step is the introduction of the bill in the House of Lords, whose decision will predetermine the actions of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May. The Conservative government has expressed its wish that the withdrawal from the EU be finally approved by the beginning of March, in order to fit within the deadline for triggering the procedure set by Theresa May herself, which is 31 March.

Some of the members of the House of Commons who are pro-European in their views claim that they will try to introduce amendments to the bill that would soften the expected economic changes related to the withdrawal of the island state from the fold of the European Union.
