Sofia - the capital of wine

The Government has approved Bulgaria’s hosting of the 40th World Congress of Vine and Wine and the 15th General Assembly of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, which will be held in the period 29 May – 2 June 2017 in Sofia.

 

This year, Bulgaria will host the 40th World Congress of Vine and Wine and the 15th General Assembly of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV - International Organisation of Vine and Wine). They will take place between 29 May and 2 June 2017 in Sofia. In the same period (1 - 4 June 2017), the International Balkan Wine Festival will be held for the sixth time.

The Congress will last 8 days and will bring together over 1,000 representatives from 46 OIV Member States. This forum gathers the international scientific community and the administration working in the sector, leading global wine traders, as well as wine journalists from around the world. During the event, development policies in viticulture and oenology are discussed and defined.

Within the framework of the Congress, experts from all over the world will present their achievements, scientific and technical topics will be debated, and a useful exchange of experience and innovations will be possible.

An event of such scale will also be an exceptional opportunity for exchange of experience and for a good presentation of our country as a destination for cultural and wine tourism, the press centre of the Council of Ministers announced.
