Pay attention to fruit worms and leaf-mining moths

August is characterized by high temperatures, low rainfall, and low air humidity. Pest attacks on vegetable crops are more severe, while fungal and bacterial diseases on fruit crops are less pronounced. The fruits of apples, pears, quinces, and late peach varieties are intensively increasing in size. Shoot growth has finished, the trees are accumulating reserve nutrients and forming fruit buds for the next vegetation period.

Plant protection measures in August are aimed mainly at further safeguarding the fruits from late worm damage caused by fruit worms and the leaves from leaf-mining moths and other pests that develop several generations. Due to the high air and soil temperatures, treatments against pests should be carried out early in the morning or in the evening.
