This year, Bulgarian agricultural producers who have relied on Syngenta wheat varieties are once again achieving top yields!
The wheat harvest has been completed. Purchase prices remain at lower levels than the previous year, while agricultural producers again incurred significant costs for growing cereal crops. Expectations for higher yields compared to the previous year were met, but will they be sufficient to cover the costs? Calculations show that a yield of 500 kg/da in most cases is the minimum for achieving profit. Under a more intensive cultivation programme, a minimum yield of 550–580 kg/da is required to achieve profitability.
This year as well, Bulgarian agricultural producers who have relied on Syngenta wheat varieties are once again achieving top yields. For several seasons now, Syngenta has been successfully developing in Bulgaria a project for multiplication of basic seeds up to C1 (first multiplication), and its partners are again reporting even higher demand for the first multiplication of Syngenta varieties this year. This is due to the high yields and the proven stability and adaptability of the Syngenta varieties offered to the different soil and climatic conditions in Bulgaria, as well as to the fact that the first multiplication is produced using Syngenta technology. During the radically different 2014 and 2015 seasons, the main Syngenta varieties Moisson, Ingenio and Bologna proved their high-yield potential, and in 2016 their top results are once again impressive. Naturally, each of the varieties has its own specific features and main “purpose”: Moisson is an established French genetics, the standard for high yield in France, which performs excellently under more intensive growing conditions; Ingenio is a variety that is a standard in Spain thanks to its excellent adaptability and provides an excellent balance between yield and quality; Bologna is one of the best-selling varieties in Italy, as it is a variety with high yield potential and impressively high quality indicators.
The 2016 results from Syngenta varieties from a considerable number of harvested fields are impressive:
Ingenio variety – Northwestern Bulgaria: average yield of 733 kg/da and a maximum result of 850 kg/da in a commercial field in the Vidin region (Florentin, Farmer R. Vitomirov); North Central Bulgaria: average yield of 802 kg/da and a maximum result of 1035 kg/da in G. Mitropoliya (ET Helga); Northeastern Bulgaria: average yield of 803 kg/da and a maximum result of 930 kg/da in a commercial field in the Dobrich region (Paskalevo, Triptolem OOD); Southern Bulgaria: average yield of 752 kg/da and a maximum result of 921 kg/da in the Stara Zagora region (Sarnevo, ZPK Edinstvo).
Bologna variety – Northwestern Bulgaria: average yield of 804 kg/da and a maximum result of 854 kg/da in the Vidin region (Novo Selo, Ben Hun Agro OOD); North Central Bulgaria: average yield of 711 kg/da and a maximum result of 793 kg/da in the Ruse region (Tsenovo, ET Tornado); Northeastern Bulgaria: average yield of 747 kg/da and a maximum result of 870 kg/da in a commercial field in the Dobrich region (Dropla, Agrikom); Southern Bulgaria: average yield of 720 kg/da and a maximum result of 836 kg/da in the Stara Zagora region (Sarnevo, ZPK Edinstvo).
Moisson variety – Northwestern Bulgaria: average yield of 805 kg/da and a maximum result of 943 kg/da in the Vidin region (Novo Selo, Ben Hun Agro OOD); North Central Bulgaria: average yield of 766 kg/da and a maximum result of 951 kg/da in G. Mitropoliya (ET Helga); Northeastern Bulgaria: average yield of 763 kg/da and a maximum result of 888 kg/da in Razgrad (Sempe 2 OOD); Southern Bulgaria: average yield of 749 kg/da and a maximum result of 893 kg/da in the Stara Zagora region (Sarnevo, ZPK Edinstvo).
The Falado variety, the latest French genetics, will be available to agricultural producers as first multiplication from next year (this year, for the first time, Syngenta is importing basic seeds for multiplication). Falado has a very high yield potential and high quality indicators, and already last year it attracted the attention of a large number of farmers, while the 2016 yields are impressive – an average yield for Northern Bulgaria of over 800 kg/da, and for Southern Bulgaria – 768 kg/da.
Syngenta’s crop protection technology for cultivation, which includes the herbicides Lintur, Axial and Axial One and the fungicides Artea, Amistar Extra and Cherokee – the new three-component fungicide that will be on the market from 2017 – also contributes greatly to achieving these results. Of course, the protection of cereal crops from diseases and pests starts even before sowing – a proper approach to soil tillage can significantly reduce pest pressure on cereal crops, but another very important measure is seed treatment for pest control, for which Syngenta recommends Dividend Formula M or Celest Top.
Dividend Formula M has become very successfully established in Bulgaria – it is a high-tech formulation for wheat seed treatment. Feedback on it is excellent, and this is due to its efficacy and characteristics. Dividend Formula M is a new generation product for wheat seed treatment that provides multiple advantages.
Firstly, the systemic and contact action of Dividend Formula M and the characteristics of the formulation provide decisive control of the pathogens on the seed surface, inside the seeds and in the soil around the sown seed.
Secondly, comparative studies on the level of disease control clearly show that Dividend Formula M provides higher control of Fusarium, Septoria and smuts compared to the standards in wheat seed treatment. Dividend Formula M also stimulates faster emergence and helps to achieve uniform and vigorous emergence of healthy plants. Thirdly, the improved characteristics of the Dividend Formula M formulation (because it is water-based) provide multiple additional advantages for agricultural producers and professionals engaged in seed treatment – excellent and durable adhesion of the product to the treated grain is ensured, which provides top effect even under high infection pressure from soil- or seed-borne pathogens, and uncompromising performance even under extreme crop-growing conditions. With Dividend Formula M, farmers can operate freely without dust formation, while avoiding concerns about residual product in the bags. And very importantly – the perfect consistency of the formulation with Formula M technology provides on average 15% higher productivity of the seed treatment line through a faster and more uniform flow of treated seeds and the use of less water during treatment; cleaning of the equipment is significantly easier and product changeover on the line is significantly faster; packaging and unpacking are much cleaner. And once again we emphasise – the water-based formulation ensures excellent adhesion for maximum efficacy and yields in wheat.
