High yields and profitability in rapeseed production with Syngenta

Rapeseed is a crop with proven profitability that has long secured its place in Bulgarian agriculture. However, the results for this crop depend to a large extent on two main groups of factors. The first group comprises factors that we cannot influence, namely: precipitation, temperature and other abiotic factors. The second group of factors are the conditions we create so that the crop can develop its yield potential (soil preparation, hybrid selection, plant protection programme, fertilization, etc.). To achieve optimal results, producers need to correctly assess local conditions and accurately implement the necessary agrotechnical measures to create a favourable environment for the development of the crop. The next step is the choice of a long-term sustainable technology that prevents the development of resistant weed species in the crop rotation. Not least is the choice of a suitable hybrid adapted to the specific environmental conditions. Syngenta is the company that provides producers with a technology combining a sustainable plant protection programme and hybrids with characteristics suitable for the respective regions of the country. The comprehensive and integrated approach to rapeseed cultivation is embedded in the foundations of the company’s strategy.

For years, the team of Syngenta Bulgaria has been working on the introduction of the most suitable hybrids for the conditions in the country from the patented SAFECROSS genetic line, ensuring higher yields and meeting market demand for hybrids with high resistance to diseases and adverse climatic conditions.

Thanks to its experience and systematic trials in various regions of the country, Syngenta offers producers the right rapeseed hybrids. In the past season, the company launched on the market the new hybrid SY VEZUVIUS. The hybrid met producers’ expectations, performing excellently in different regions of Bulgaria. Here, the achieved results should be mentioned: 568 kg in Mayor Uzunovo, Vidin; 530 kg in Dropla, Dobrich and 512 kg in Karnobat, Burgas. The hybrid NK CARAVEL, well known to Bulgarian farmers, continues with its traditionally good performance, with yields reaching 562 kg in Mayor Uzunovo, Vidin and 559 kg in Karnobat, Burgas. Syngenta’s rapeseed product list also includes the early hybrid NK TECHNIK with a recorded yield of 483 kg in Popovo, Targovishte. By including it in their production, farmers achieve a well-distributed harvest over time and peace of mind during yield collection. NK OCTANS complements the company’s portfolio with its good tolerance to diseases, high potential for oil content and a yield of 492 kg in Belitsa, Silistra and 482 kg in Tervel, Dobrich. The yield of the hybrid NK COLUMBUS reached 599 kg in Mayor Uzunovo, Vidin.

The complete technology for rapeseed cultivation offered by Syngenta has once again proven its advantages in achieving high results. The technology ensures a good start for rapeseed and excellent crop density through the application of the soil herbicide TERIDOX (a broad-spectrum herbicide for the control of annual broadleaf and grass weeds, including wild mustard). TERIDOX is an important tool for preventing the emergence of resistant weeds that are tolerant to entire groups of herbicides with a similar mode of action (ALS inhibitors), which are increasingly used in all major crops (cereals, sunflower, maize, rapeseed).

At a later stage of development, for the control of volunteer cereals and grass weed infestation, treatment with the highly effective foliar systemic herbicide FUSILADE FORTE is appropriate.

The already established and well-known growth regulator and fungicide TOPREX limits stem growth, stimulates root development, and increases winter hardiness and yield potential. It should also be noted that TOPREX is offered at a highly competitive price in 2016.
