Agrometeorological forecast for the month of June 2016

During the first half of June, agro-meteorological conditions will be determined by unstable and seasonally cold weather. The forecast frequent rainfall and below-normal temperatures will create optimal conditions for the development of fungal diseases. At the beginning of June, the development of agricultural crops will proceed at a slower pace, but during the third ten-day period, a large part of the spring crops will enter a reproductive stage of their development - in early hybrid corn, the tasseling phase will be observed, and in sunflower, the beginning of the flowering phase.

The forecast frequent rainfall and below-normal temperatures will create optimal conditions for the development of fungal diseases - downy mildew on vines and vegetable crops, brown rot on cherry fruits, gray mold on strawberry fruits, scab on apple and pear, shot hole disease on stone fruit species, etc.

At the beginning of June, the development of agricultural crops will proceed at a slower pace. During the first ten-day period, the milk ripening phase will predominate in winter cereal crops in the field regions. In parts of the Danubian Plain and in Southern Bulgaria, the beginning of the waxy ripening phase will also be observed in barley and wheat. By mid-June, barley will complete its development. During this period, winter rapeseed will be in the ripening phase.

During the second half of June, a gradual improvement in thermal conditions is forecast. The vegetation of spring crops and the final phases of development of autumn sowings will proceed at moderate rates with temperatures close to climatic norms. At the end of the second and the beginning of the third ten-day period, waxy ripening will predominate in wheat. A good and very good grain harvest is expected. The forecast average wheat yields in some regions of Dobrudzha are expected to exceed 550 kg/decare.

During the third ten-day period, a large part of the spring crops will enter a reproductive stage of their development - in early hybrid corn, the tasseling phase will be observed, and in sunflower, the beginning of the flowering phase.

More suitable conditions for carrying out seasonal agrotechnical activities will occur during the second half of the month. In June, an increased probability of hailstorms is also forecast. In case of any hail damage, it is recommended to treat the affected fruit and vegetable crops with copper-containing fungicides at the first opportunity.
