Bulgarian wines won a total of 109 medals at the 23rd edition of the world’s most prestigious independent wine competition, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which was held for the first time in Bulgaria from 29 April to 1 May 2016 at the International Fair Plovdiv.
Over the past few years, Bulgaria has been consolidating its image as a producer of quality wines that are in demand not only on the Bulgarian, but also on the global market. The local wineries represented in Plovdiv were 70, and the total number of samples from Bulgarian wine producers in the competition reached the impressive figure of 270. This year Bulgaria ranked sixth in terms of number of samples after Portugal, France, Spain, Italy and Chile. Of the 109 medals won for our country, 4 are Grand Gold, 47 are Gold and 58 – Silver. A Grand Gold medal is awarded to wines that have received more than 92 points.
