What makes farmers' markets so appealing is the direct contact. The interest in them proves that consumers trust people who have personally produced what they offer at the stall much more than a hired seller. The buyer meets the farmer face to face and gives their direct assessment. Especially for small producers, these markets are vital – they receive a fair price and quick feedback.
„Farmers'” and „organic” are used increasingly often, with it not being clear who really stands behind the product and what its quality is, especially online. To facilitate information about such markets, where you can personally meet existing farmers and learn how they produce the food they offer, we will introduce you to the brief history of „Hrankoop“ – the largest and most reliable network of farmers' markets in the country.
„Hrankoop“ – The Pioneers in Our Country
It is impossible to talk about farmers' markets in Bulgaria without mentioning „Hrankoop“. Its story began more than 15 years ago as a modest initiative by enthusiasts in Sofia seeking clean food. Initially, they created a simple mailing list through which they shared contacts of organic farmers and collected group orders.
Despite initial difficulties and regulations, through strict internal rules (most notably the requirement that products be sold personally by the producer), trust grew quickly. Today, „Hrankoop“ unites hundreds of small farmers and thousands of consumers with regular markets in Sofia (such as the iconic market at the „Roman Wall“), Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas.
Ultimately, farmers' markets in our country prove that they are much more than a place for trade – they are vibrant social spaces that support domestic production and value the authentic taste of food.
