A clove of health

The third garlic festival will take place in the Radomir village of Dolni Rakovec  on September 20 and 21, 2025.

Garlic is a traditional crop for the village of Dolni Rakovec and an indispensable part of Bulgarian cuisine. Due to the favorable soil and climatic conditions in the region, large and aromatic garlic is produced, which popularizes the village throughout Bulgaria. An old variety of garlic with large heads and a strong taste is grown. It is suitable for autumn and spring sowing, with the autumn variety being milder and the spring variety having a stronger aroma, being more pungent and suitable for storage.

The main taste qualities of garlic depend on the place where it is grown and the nutrients with which the soil where the crop is grown is rich. The growth of the garlic head and its pungency, in turn, are directly dependent on the sulfur in the soil.

The idea for creating the "Health in a Clove" association belongs to young families with roots from Dolni Rakovec, who have returned to the village and are involved in the production of the traditional product.

This year's festival program includes a presentation of local producers, garlic braiding, preparation of Dolni Rakovec garlic oil, as well as a rich folklore program and games.

You will sing, you will eat, and you will dance the horo together, hand in hand, just as the garlic wreaths of Dolni Rakovec are intertwined!
