Day of the Farmer in Sadovo – Alternative Crops Suitable for Organic Farming

On 30 May (Friday), the traditional Farmer’s Day will be held at the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources "Konstantin Malkov".

At the event in Sadovo you can look forward to a visit to the Demonstration Field of the Institute and familiarization with the varieties developed at IPGR.

The wheat, barley, triticale, rye, oat and winter pea varieties developed at IPGR Sadovo will be presented.  The focus of the presentation of the crops in the Institute’s fields will be on alternative crops such as grass pea, phacelia, flax and millet, which are suitable for organic farming.

Guests will be acquainted with the objectives and results achieved under the project „Study of the genetic diversity of Aegilops species in the flora of Bulgaria”.

A visit to the organic field and spraying of crops with a drone by DJI Agriculture are also part of the Farmer’s Day programme, which is dedicated to the future of smart agriculture.
