The third edition of the Festival of Bulgarian Wine Varieties will be held from 23 to 25 May 2025 in the beautiful Revival town of Tryavna, which is a traditional attraction for many tourists. The most luminous Bulgarian holiday, 24 May, is more than suitable for the festival dedicated to Bulgarian wine.
The potential of Bulgarian wine grape varieties is a sufficient reason for a three-day celebration outside the usual wine destinations in the large cities of the country. The first two successful editions of the festival prove that the residents and guests of the region have an enormous interest in Bulgarian wine.
32 Bulgarian wineries will present their wines in Tryavna: Ahinora, Bononia Estate, Bratanov, Via Verde, Villa Bassarea, Villa Melnik, Varbovka, Georgiev & Milkov, Gorun, Devina, Dimitrovi, Dragoshinov, Deuce Winery, Zharava, Zlatен Rozhen, Kolarovo, Konopane, Lozenitsa, Magura, Maxima, Malkata Zvezda, Maryan, Medi Valley, Mladenova Izba, Pink Pelican, Rosalea, Salla Estate, Stevie Estate, Tipchenitsa, Haralambievi, Chukara, Tsarev Brod.

Gamza or Kadarka is a wine grape variety cultivated in Bulgaria since ancient times. It is distributed mainly in northwestern and central Northern Bulgaria. It is a late-ripening wine variety. Its grapes ripen in the second half of September. The most suitable for it are well-ventilated sites on hills with relatively rich soils and good exposure. It has medium vigour, high fertility and high yield. The grapes are used to produce red table and dessert wines. They are full-bodied, easy-drinking and harmonious, but variable in quality depending on the region and the vintage.
They will offer high-quality wines, diverse in type and style, from Mavrud, Rubin, Gamza, Shiroka Melnishka Loza and the whole family of Melnik varieties, Dimyat, Tamyanka, Misket – Karlovo, Vratsa, Sandanski, Varna..., Gergana and other Bulgarian grape varieties, as well as blends between them and various international varieties. The festival will bring together in one place wines from local Bulgarian varieties and those that are the product of Bulgarian breeding, such as Mavrud, which in recent years has once again been receiving the attention it deserves.
The event is organized by DiVino in partnership with Marin Marinov – wine enthusiast, owner of the company Wine Lovers and creator of the increasingly popular podcast “Guide of the Bulgarian Wine Lover”, as well as with the valuable support of Tryavna Municipality, which aims to enrich the municipal cultural calendar and, along with it, the national wine calendar.

The festival will open on 23 May (Friday) at 18:00. On the three festival days, including Sunday, 25 May, visitors will be able to taste their favourite wines between 13:00 and 19:00. The wine fiesta will take place outdoors, under tents with tables, on the square in front of the Pencho Slaveykov 1871 Community Cultural Centre, opposite the Tryavna Municipality building.
A stage will be set up in the festival area and in the evenings there will be talented live musical performances complementing the atmosphere. Guests can count on attractive food options, selected farm products and delicacies for delicious combinations with the wonderful wines.
On Saturday and Sunday, 24 and 25 May, masterclasses with separate admission are planned, which will be held in the seminar hall of Tryavna Municipality, close to the event venue. They are dedicated to typical, mainly Bulgarian varieties and offer interesting vertical tastings of emblematic wines, led by proven oenologists.
Tickets for the masterclasses will be sold at the registration desk at the entrance.
