Updated lists of endangered local varieties and of climate-resilient varieties

The List of endangered local varieties important for agriculture, as well as the List of crops and varieties resistant to climatic conditions that are supported under the intervention in the field of environment and climate, and animal welfare, have been expanded and supplemented by the Agricultural Academy, in cooperation with the Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Approbation and Seed Control (EAVTASC), the Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports.
Issue 18 of the State Gazette of 8 March 2025 publishes the Ordinance amending and supplementing Ordinance No. 10 of 2023 on the conditions and procedures for the implementation of interventions in the field of environment and climate, and animal welfare, which also includes both the list of endangered local varieties and the list of varieties resistant to climatic conditions.
The list of endangered varieties has been supplemented with four apricot varieties: Boryana, Kŭsna dryanovska, Festivalna, Silistra 252.
Regarding the List of resistant varieties, the section on vegetable crops has been supplemented, with the following tomato varieties being included: Dara, Rozovo siyaniye, Sŭlzitsa, Plovdivka karotina, Milyana, Ideal, Mini mis, bringing the total number of supported varieties to 12. The following pepper varieties have been added: Dan Dan, Ruevit, Baltovska kapiya and Stryama, further expanding the scope of support. Cucumbers have been supplemented with the variety Mersiya.
Taking into account the importance of traditional crops and varieties, as well as their significance in the agri-food chain, an amendment to the ordinance has been made, under which the restriction on cultivation of “no more than 5 ha“ per variety is removed for the following types of crops: garden pea, garden bean, tomato, pepper, cucumber, white head cabbage and garden courgette. As a result, their cultivation is expected to be stimulated and interest in the support to increase.
These lists have been supplemented by the “Agricultural Academy”, in cooperation with the Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Approbation and Seed Control.
