On 12 February 2025, a technical meeting of Corteva Agriscience dedicated to the company’s biological products was held in Pravets. Pedro Casas, Head of the Agronomy Department for row crops in the EMEA region, presented the innovative product UTRISH™ N, which provides nitrogen throughout the entire development of the crop in an efficient and controlled manner.
UTRISH™ N is the new way to supply nitrogen, at the moments when the crop needs it, from the atmosphere. This naturally improves the vitality of your crop throughout the growing season, leading to a better return on investment. Utrisha® N contains a first-of-its-kind bacterium, Methylobacterium, which colonises the crop in its vegetative parts and provides the crop with nitrogen in an assimilable form captured from the air. Utrisha® N enters the plant through the stomata of the leaves, penetrating into the interior of the photosynthetic cells and establishing itself near the cytoplasm, which is closest to the chloroplast, where there are higher quantities of iron and molybdenum. Utrisha® N metabolises the captured nitrogen from the air through a process called nitrogenesis and converts it into nitrogen that is available to the crop.
What is the most suitable moment for application?
The bacterium is endophytic and it is recommended that the application be carried out during vegetative growth. For example, in cereals and row crops, when the plant reaches BBCH 25, this is the ideal moment for application. The more leaves the plant has, the better, because the product has to penetrate through them. In special crops such as citrus, stone fruit and apples, the right moment for application is immediately after fruit set, when new leaves and shoots are developing.
Utrisha® N is 100% of biological origin and is included in the list of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) for soil improvers and reduction of fertiliser rates as part of the eco-schemes under the new CAP. Utrisha® N is registered for all arable crops, vegetables, fruit crops and vineyards at a rate of 33.3 g/da.
