Information campaign of the BFSA for combating the black pine beetle

See when and where fruit growers can obtain the necessary information on the measures against the pest Capnodis tenebrionis

In recent years, the pest flatheaded root-borer (Capnodis tenebrionis) has been gradually expanding its distribution area and increasing the number of attacked and destroyed plants in stone and pome fruit orchards, oil-bearing rose plantations and ornamental species of the family Rosaceae.

In this context, and with the aim of familiarizing farmers and other interested parties with the biology of the flatheaded root-borer, the damage it causes and the control measures, the Plant Protection Departments at the respective Regional Food Safety Directorates are organizing information and training meetings.

On 26 March a meeting is scheduled between farmers and plant protection specialists from the Regional Food Safety Directorate (RFSD) in Sandanski, in the hall of the CTC „LAG” – Sandanski.

On 27 March information meetings will be held in Smolyan, at 11:00 a.m., in the building of the RFSD – Smolyan, 5 „Trakiya“ Street, and on the same day in Plovdiv a meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the building of the RFSD – Plovdiv.

On 28 March, dealing with the flatheaded root-borer will be the topic of the meeting with fruit growers from the Vidin region in the building of the RFSD – Vidin, 12 “Ribarska“ Street, 1st floor, at 10:00 a.m.

April will begin with a meeting of farmers in Pleven – on 1 April, from 10:30 a.m., in the building of the former OAPS, 13th floor, 1 „Vasil Levski‘‘ Street.

On 2 April an information meeting will be held in Varna, at 11:00 a.m., in the „Plenarna“ Hall of the municipal administration of the city of Varna.

At present, 3 April is the last date announced by the BFSA on which a meeting of the awareness-raising campaign will be held. It will take place in Kyustendil, at 10:00 a.m., in the House of Science and Technology, 2 „Macedonia“ Street, hall on the 2nd floor.

The current schedule is subject to update if necessary and is available on the BFSA website.

For the benefit of farmers, a „Guide for the implementation of measures for the control of the flatheaded root-borer (Capnodis tenebrionis) in woody fruit and ornamental species of the family Rosaceae on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria“ has also been developed.
