New threats to walnut in Bulgaria

Today, 18 October (Friday) from 10:00 a.m. an online seminar will be held on the topic: "New threats to walnut in Bulgaria".

During the seminar, the participants will learn from Prof. Dr. Rumen Tomov, University of Forestry – Sofia, about two newly emerged pest species in Bulgaria that pose a threat to walnut production – Asian walnut moth (Garella  musculana)  and  Walnut  husk  fly (Rhagoletis  completa). Their damage symptoms will be presented and how they can be distinguished from other walnut pests, as well as the existing measures that can be taken for pest control.

In the second part of the online seminar, the participants will be informed about the advisory services provided by the National Agricultural Advisory Service to small agricultural holdings under sub-measure  2.1.2  "Advisory services for small agricultural holdings" of Measure 2 of the Rural Development Programme (RDP)  2014-2020,  as  well  as  the opportunities for support to young and new farmers  and  farmers with very small agricultural holdings under the Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas (SPDAR) 2023-2027.

The organizers of the seminar are the National Agricultural Advisory Service and the University of Forestry (UF) – Sofia
