Lavender Aroma Tasting – a unique sensory experience starting from the end of May only at DiVes Winery: wine & history & lavender

DiVes Winery offers a breathtaking view during the months of June and July – lavender terraces located around the winery on Simeonova Mogila near Aheloy, with overflowing shades of purple against the backdrop of the coastline. Challenge your senses and discover 5 different varieties of Bulgarian high-quality lavender starting from the end of May this year!

The lavender terraces were created in 2019 with the main mission to showcase the beauty and qualities of Bulgarian lavender, which became number 1 in the world and displaced France from the leading position as a producer of lavender oil. Approximately 10,000 plants are located on the terraces, which are grown organically. The early blooming of lavender this year is due to the atypical climatic conditions this spring, including high temperatures. This will allow us to start the unique "Aroma tasting of 5 varieties of high-quality Bulgarian lavender" tour about 2 weeks earlier. The varieties, selected by Professor Dr. Ivan Yanchev from the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, show how the culture and its selection have developed in Bulgaria. We present both new varieties with a guarantee of good oil quality, as well as older and basic varieties.

The tours are accompanied by a guide who reveals details about the plant itself, the type and size of the bushes, the color of the corolla, the yield, the benefits of using the oil, the methods of application, and of course, the most exciting part – the aroma evaluation. Our team demonstrates a special technique to enjoy the pure and delicate aromas that each individual variety carries,  in the best possible way. “See, touch, and feel the scent of this wonderful plant”, this is what we say to each of our visitors. This attraction has undoubtedly thrilled the senses of our guests during the summer months in recent years and enriched their knowledge about the plant and its origin. The incredible photos of the lavender terraces against the backdrop of the sea, which you can take after the tour, complete the experience. Every guest receives a small gift to carry the memory of the visit.

In addition to the Lavender Aroma Tasting, the winery also offers the following tours year-round:

1. Historical Tour

The winery is located on the historic Simeonova Mogila hill, connected to one of the most epic battles in our history: the Battle of Aheloy River on August 20, 917. Tsar Simeon the Great led the battle precisely from the location where the winery now stands, which is why the area bears the name “Simeonova Mogila”. Led by an experienced guide, visitors learn about the history of the battle in front of the “Eye of the Victor” monument.

2. Wine Tour – Wine Tasting

For almost 10 years, the winery has developed its Special Wine & Historical Tour and has established itself as a preferred destination for wine visits in the Nesebar and Sunny Beach region. This success is due to the exceptional medalist wines, which stand out with rich taste and quality, and the hospitality of the DiVes Winery team, which presents the main practices in wine production during the tour around the winery building. During the tour, visitors learn how to evaluate wine in combination with selected foods, following the Food&Wine Pairing concept.

The winery is proud not only of the more than 90 international medals and awards won from the most prestigious wine competitions such as Decanter World Wine Awards, Mundis Vini, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, DiVino Taste, Vinaria, etc., but also the numerous reviews from our visitors, which are the best evaluation of our service.

In September, the most important event for a winery is organized, namely the grape harvest - of enormous importance to us, because it is the crossroads where the entire wine production chain begins. The winery proudly announces that it has its own vineyards where 5 different wine grape varieties are carefully grown: Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Pamid, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery has modern equipment and technologies that assist the experienced team of technologists and cellar masters. This includes the most modern bottling line, through which wine is bottled in an anaerobic environment. The team shows 100% commitment, taking care of every detail to create exceptional wines with great love. September is the most suitable month for visits by the most passionate wine lovers, who will have the opportunity to taste grape juice or fermenting wines during the tour.

With great excitement, we share footage from the hit Bulgarian TV series “WINES”, broadcast on BNT1 this spring, in which the owner of the winery – Dimitar Rangelov (Owner&Winemaker) participated and presented Rosé Vineyard Selection from the Bulgarian variety Pamid in combination with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

For the period May – September, daily tours are offered in 4 languages: Bulgarian, English, German, and Russian. During the period October – April, the winery offers tastings within the team's working hours – from Monday to Friday until 4 PM in Bulgarian and English.
