„You reap what you sow”, says our people. Convinced of the truth of these words, the organizers of the national festival „Bulgarian Seed” – the „OT BG” Foundation and Sevlievo Municipality, invite all their friends on 27 and 28 April to „Kazarmite” Park in Sevlievo, when its first anniversary edition will take place and from the sprout to the top everything will be Bulgarian! The festival hosts already established initiatives such as the „Farmers’ Market”, „No One Is Greater Than Bread”, children’s workshops, etc. This year the organizers are enriching the programme with a number of new experiences. The National Festival in Sevlievo provides connoisseurs of traditional flavours with an exceptional opportunity to plant in their gardens vegetables, fruit and cereal crops with quality proven over decades.
Then the Seed House will open its doors again to continue the initiative „Pass it on! Take and sow Bulgarian seeds!”. It is located close to the festival stage and visitors can take from it, free of charge, certified seeds provided by the leading partner of the event – the Agricultural Academy and the community centres from Sevlievo Municipality. On the occasion of the festival’s tenth anniversary, several agricultural institutes of the Academy are providing old Bulgarian varieties of vegetable, essential oil and cereal crops. Representatives of a number of community centres from the villages in Sevlievo Municipality are also actively participating in the „Seed House“ initiative; they will pass on seeds preserved by their ancestors and seedlings of local varieties. The Seed House also offers the opportunity for free exchange, in which every guest can participate by taking and/or leaving a small packet of seeds with information about them.
A special guest and inspirer of the event will be the President of the Agricultural Academy – Prof. Violeta Bozhanova, who will speak on „Plant breeding – the science and art of improving cultivated plants”. She will meet with all those who are committed to preserving Bulgarian traditions in agriculture. The meeting with Prof. Bozhanova will take place on 27 April in the specially designated festival zone „Knowledge”.
The talks on the need to protect Bulgarian nature will continue on Sunday as well. Then a motivating discussion meeting will be held with a representative of the „Gorata.bg” Foundation. For another year in a row, the tireless young women and men from the foundation will distribute free of charge 10,000 fruit-bearing and melliferous trees.
All those who wish to develop their fruit-growing skills will have the opportunity to meet another inspirer and guardian of the old Bulgarian knowledge – Hristo Ivanov, better known as Hristo Ashlaminator. The engaging talk about our long-lived varieties of fruit trees, about comprehensive care for the orchard and about the blessed family life in the countryside will once again take place in the „Knowledge” zone.
After the talk, in the specially designated corner „For My Garden“, festival guests will watch a demonstration of grafting fruit trees and will be able to take part in practical training in grafting.
