Integrated Pest Management in Agricultural Crops - Training

In connection with the amendments to the Plant Protection Law, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) and the State Fund Agriculture are organizing training for agricultural producers regarding integrated pest management. 40 seminars will be held in 28 regions of the country. Each participant, upon completion of the training program after successfully passing a test, will receive a certificate confirming their participation in the seminars and their awareness of the main requirements for the production of integrated agricultural products. It is of utmost importance that every product is correctly labeled, marked, and offered to the market according to the high standards of the Plant Protection Law. With the corresponding certificate, farmers can apply to obtain a license for the use of plant protection products of the professional category.

As the BFSA press center announced, on 05/12/2015, the first organizational meeting of the BFSA Regional Directorates on the topic: "Integrated Pest Management in Agricultural Crops" under Measure 111 "Professional Training, Information Activities and Dissemination of Scientific Knowledge" of the Rural Development Program for the period 2007 - 2013 was held. The meeting outlined the duration and content of the modular training for agricultural producers.

In the first module, participants will be introduced to the relevant legislation on the topic in a specific sequence.

Legislation:

  • Alignment of the Plant Protection Law with Directive 2009/128/EC on the sustainable use of pesticides. National Action Plan for the sustainable use of pesticides;
  • Integrated pest management according to the requirements of the Plant Protection Law. Opportunities for using advisory services.
In the second module, the specific principles of integrated pest management will be developed.

General and specific principles of integrated pest management:

  • General principles for integrated pest management under the Plant Protection Law;
  • Specific principles for integrated pest management under Ordinance No. 15 of August 3, 2007 on the conditions and procedure for integrated production of plants and plant products and their labeling;
  • Conditions and procedure for integrated production, procedure for registration of agricultural producers according to Ordinance No. 15 of August 3, 2007 on the conditions and procedure for integrated production of plants and plant products and their labeling;
  • Labeling of integrated production, traceability of the product's path and control according to Ordinance No. 15 of August 3, 2007 on the conditions and procedure for integrated production of plants and plant products and their labeling.
