В края на януари – suitable conditions for the preparation and sowing of seedlings for early vegetable production

During the past period, critical temperatures for late autumn crops of minus 11-15°C were recorded in places in Western and Central Bulgaria – Knezha, Lovech, Pleven, Dragoman, Blagoevgrad, Sofia, Pazardzhik. The snow cover that formed in these areas, with a thickness of 10-20 cm, reduced the risk of damage to the winter cereal crops.

At the end of January and the beginning of February, the agrometeorological conditions will be determined by unsettled weather. Critical minimum temperatures for agricultural crops in conditions without snow cover are not forecast. During the period, the wheat and barley will predominantly be at the third leaf growth stage. The most delayed crops in their development are at the emergence and beginning of leaf formation stage. A small part of the winter cereal crops are at the tillering stage, which is suitable for successful overwintering – Dolni Chiflik, Bazovets, Novachene, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Lyubimets.

The unsettled weather during the period will limit the possibilities for conducting pruning in the perennial plantations. The period is suitable for preparation and sowing of seedlings for early vegetable production – tomatoes, peppers, eggplants.
