The new offer from FMC for excellent control of downy mildew

This year, in addition to its extensive portfolio of plant protection products, fertilizers, amino acids and biostimulants, in the fungicides segment FMC has registered the new fungicide for the protection of potatoes, tomatoes and vineyards against late blight – Cantico. Cantico is a fungicide with an excellent effect against fungal pathogens from the class Oomycetes, especially against potato late blight and grapevine downy mildew. The fungicide has a strong protective action when applied preventively. Cantico must be applied before infection by the pathogen. For effective control – for a period of 5 to 12 days depending on the crop – it is best that the treatments are adapted to the degree of pathogen infestation.

Cyazofamid is a specially developed active substance with local-systemic action, which moves freely within the plant, allowing its use in the early stages of growth. The silicon contained in the formulation of Cantico helps to overcome surface tension excellently by maximising the contact between the fungicide and the treated plant surface.

Cantico’s mode of action is based on interference with respiration, as cyazofamid inhibits mitochondrial respiration. Cantico inhibits all stages of the pathogen’s life cycle (zoospores, mycelium, sporulation), without exerting any harmful effect on the natural yeasts on the grape clusters and on wine fermentation.

Cyazofamid does not exhibit cross-resistance with active substances classified as external inhibitors, which act on the outer membrane of mitochondria (for example: azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, kresoxim-methyl, famoxadone).

Cantico offers a high degree of adhesion to waxy coatings and resistance to wash-off by rain, thereby maintaining a high level of efficacy even after intense rainfall (40, 60, 100 mm of rain) immediately following application. Formulated with a high degree of micronisation, suitable for the preparation of suspensions and easy to apply, it does not contain solvents and is compatible with many commercial products with complementary activity.

Excellent protection during vegetation and ripening when applied preventively and when the doses and treatment intervals are observed.
