At the end of September, the new Viticulture Register was presented at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, which was developed through the implementation of an Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Eurostat at the MAF.

“A new information system has been established to support the activities related to the maintenance of the Viticulture Register, with the scope of data in accordance with European legislation. The aim is to support the work of agricultural statistics, as well as of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine and of the State Fund ‘Agriculture’ – Paying Agency in the implementation and administration of the interventions in the wine-growing sector under the Strategic Plan for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas for the period 2023–2027,“ the Deputy Minister announced at the meeting.

The newly created electronic register will contain up-to-date information on the production potential of the wine-growing sector in Bulgaria and will replace the existing register. “The current information system, which is technologically outdated and incompatible with the software of modern operating systems, will also be replaced. In the new information system, by creating a separate statistical module for use by the ‘Agrostatistics’ Department at the MAF, access will be provided to the available data for the preparation of summary reports in fulfilment of national needs and those of European legislation in the field of agricultural statistics,“ clarified Deputy Minister Toshev. He further noted that the quality and reliability of the data in the register also depend on the agricultural producers, who will themselves declare the areas on which they cultivate vineyards, as well as the yields of wine grapes.

The automatic exchange of data from the Viticulture Register with the systems of the State Fund “Agriculture“ will facilitate applications for support. The new information system, software and hardware equipment and technology will ease the work of the staff of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine, and the Viticulture Register will be a reliable source of information for all those involved in the wine-growing sector.

The non-repayable funds granted by Eurostat will help to reduce the financial burden on the budget of the MAF and to reduce the administrative burden on respondents in the collection of data on the wine-growing sector.
