The conference is an initiative of the Center of Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB). This is the first Bulgarian Center of Excellence in the field of plant biology and biotechnology, funded under the project "PlantaSYST" with resources from the EC (Teaming programme of “Horizon 2020”) and co-funded by the Operational Programme “Science and Education for Smart Growth” through the European Regional Development Fund. The Center is establishing itself among the leading international research institutes in the field of plant biology and biotechnology, attracting scientists from Bulgaria and abroad who are developing their scientific careers in the country.

“It is a privilege for us that we have managed to ensure the participation in this conference of established researchers who have come to Bulgaria to exchange experience and knowledge with colleagues from the country. The contribution of Bulgarian scientists to this exchange is significant, and the expertise of the researchers at CPSBB is proof of Bulgaria’s potential to develop science at a world-class level,” emphasized Prof. Tsanko Gechev, Director of CPSBB and organizer of the conference.

„We are proud that the PlantaSYST project has been implemented in Plovdiv. When nearly 10 years ago the research team led by Prof. Dr. Tsanko Gechev sought the support of Plovdiv Municipality for the implementation of this large-scale project, the local authorities had no doubt that the project would be successful. It is not only of essential importance for the development of science and the economy in the region, but will also contribute to attracting to Bulgaria established scientific experts from prestigious international research institutes,“ stated the Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv, Stefan Stoyanov, in his welcoming address to the participants in the conference.

During the event, scientists, representatives of the academic community, agricultural producers and private companies from Bulgaria and abroad will have a platform for presentations and discussions in specific scientific fields that are important for science, business and society as a whole.

The three-day conference is held from 25 to 27 September 2023 in the newly built research complex of CPSBB in Plovdiv.
