Festival of Fertility - Kyustendil 2023

On 22 - 24 September 2023, the “FERTILITY FESTIVAL” will take place in the center of the town of Kyustendil. It is the successor of the First National Fruit-Growing Contest, held back in 1896 precisely in the town of Kyustendil.  The fruit-growing tradition of the Kyustendil region has been alive at all times and has been passed down as experience and culture from generation to generation and from family to family.

The festival has been held annually since 2008 and is organized by Kyustendil Municipality and the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil. At specially arranged stands, community centers, organizations and agricultural producers from the region present the fruits of their labor.

Institute of Agriculture - Kyustendil will present a rich collection of over 100 apple cultivars

Every year, the Institute of Agriculture – Kyustendil presents an extensive exhibition of fruits of apple cultivars and hybrids that have shown good performance during testing. The focus of the exhibition is on cultivars that have demonstrated, over the past year, good tolerance to low winter temperatures, late spring frosts or other stress factors. Brief presentations from the stage in the town square are given for the apple cultivars that have distinguished themselves with the best economic traits. All researchers from the Institute are available to visitors and will respond promptly to their questions. The Institute of Agriculture - Kyustendil will present a rich collection of over 100 apple cultivars.

On 23 September 2023 (Saturday) at 12:00 p.m. the official opening of the Fertility Festival will begin.

The festival programme includes a number of entertaining and interesting contests for the largest fruit, for the most attractive fruit or vegetable, and for the best arranged stand. The chairperson of the jury in the contest “Fertility of the Kyustendil Region” is traditionally the Director of the Institute of Agriculture - Kyustendil.
