At the end of February and the beginning of March – a period suitable for sowing carrots and onion sets

On most days of the period from the end of February and the beginning of March, the agrometeorological conditions will continue to be determined by above-normal temperatures, which will maintain active vegetation processes in the winter cereal crops.

In wheat and barley, the third leaf and tillering growth stages will be observed. In stone fruit species, the predominant stage will be mass bud swelling.

Towards the end of the period, a decrease in temperatures is forecast and their average daily values will be close to the biological minimum required for vegetation in winter cereal crops.

More favourable conditions for top-dressing of autumn-sown crops with nitrogen mineral fertilizers, for carrying out seasonal soil tillage and pruning in orchards and vineyards will occur at the end of February.

The forecast precipitation at the end of February and the beginning of March will postpone plant protection spraying in stone fruit species against peach leaf curl, early brown rot and shot-hole disease. The period will be suitable for planting onion sets and sowing spinach and carrots.
