Аgrarian University – Plovdiv is organizing an exhibition “Presentation of the lecture heritage of Prof. Dimitar Dimov from his Plovdiv period”

On 2 November at 11:00 a.m. in the Library of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, an exhibition will be opened entitled “Presentation of the lecture legacy of Prof. Dimitar Dimov from his Plovdiv period”. 

The name of Prof. Dimitar Dimov is emblematic for the history of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, which was established 75 years ago as the Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry at Plovdiv State University “Paisii Hilendarski” back in 1945.

At the end of 1946, Dimitar Dimov took up a position at Plovdiv University and taught “Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals” at the Faculty of Agronomy.

Assoc. Prof. Nikola Nestorov, who was Vice-Rector of the Higher Agricultural Institute in the period 1951–1962, donated the handwritten notebooks – lectures by Dimitar Dimov – to the National Literary Museum, House Museum “Dimitar Dimov”.

Nowadays, with the advancement of information and communication technologies, these manuscripts can be accessible to every student, lecturer or enthusiast of veterinary medicine both in electronic and in printed form.

The present exhibition includes 188 sheets of handwritten lectures by Prof. Dimitar Dimov from his teaching period at Plovdiv State University, later the Higher Agricultural Institute, and today the Agricultural University – Plovdiv: Lecture plan in 3 volumes; Physiology of Respiration; Physiology of Blood and Circulation; Physiology of the Excretory Organs; Physiology of Digestion.

The aim is to popularize, preserve and above all, in a new way, to “return” to the place of origin the lectures of Dimitar Dimov, who taught and worked at the Higher Agricultural Institute. They find their rightful place in the Library of the Agricultural University, where in 2021, in connection with the 70th anniversary of the writing of the novel “Tobacco”, one of the reading rooms was renamed “Prof. Dimitar Dimov” Reading Room.

On 02.11 (Wednesday), the digitized copies of the lectures will be presented. They are displayed in exhibition showcases, specially made for the event by the Vocational High School of Interior Architecture and Woodworking “Hristo Botev”, Plovdiv.

The digital copies are provided by the National Literary Museum, House Museum “Dimitar Dimov”, Sofia, with Chief Curator Dr. Milena Katosheva, who will also present the originals, which will be available for viewing on the day of the exhibition opening.

Students from the Department of “Animal Science” at the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, together with lecturers Dr. Petar Petrov and Dr. Svetoslav Karamfilov, will make a comparison between the lecture plan on anatomy and physiology of domestic animals, according to which they study today, and that prepared by D. Dimov in 1946 (76 years ago).

A film about Dimitar Dimov will be presented, reflecting his creative and teaching period while he lived and worked in Plovdiv.

The event is organized in partnership with: Plovdiv Municipality, Department “Culture, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage”, Plovdiv, the Vocational High School of Interior Architecture and Woodworking “Hristo Botev”, Plovdiv, and the National Literary Museum, House Museum “Dimitar Dimov”, Sofia.

The event is organized with the financial support of Plovdiv Municipality and is part of the Cultural Calendar of the city for 2022.
