The Festival of Agricultural Science will be held jointly with the exhibition “Gifts of Nature” on St. Demetrius’ Day (26 October) in the Aula of the Agricultural Academy (AA). We are also celebrating the 120th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Bulgarian scientist Acad. Pavel Popov.
On 26 October 2022 the Agricultural Academy marked 140 years of agricultural science in Bulgaria. The traditional “Festival of Agricultural Science” also includes the exhibition “Gifts of Nature”, where the structural scientific units of the Agricultural Academy will be presented.
The exhibition showcases not only the scientific achievements of the individual institutes, but also reveals the aspiration of the agricultural institution to preserve Bulgarian traditions in the agrarian sector.
In front of the Aula of the AA there will be an open exhibition area for visitors, dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Bulgarian scientist Acad. Pavel Popov, as part of the ceremonial commemoration “140 Years of Agricultural Science in Bulgaria”.

Acad. Pavel Popov
One of the luminaries of agrarian science in Bulgaria – Acad. Pavel Popov, who took an active part in the development of the first experimental station in Sadovo, succeeded in building genuine science through the breeding of wheat and many other agricultural crops of great importance for our country. Popov created a school with international influence in agricultural science, and with his participation 67 varieties of wheat, pepper, peanuts, poppy, sesame and others were developed. He raised wheat breeding in Bulgaria to a world level and authored over 750 scientific and popular-science articles.
The opening of the festival will begin with a congratulatory address to the scientists and employees working in the field of agricultural science, delivered by Prof. DSc Eng. Martin Banov – President of the AA.
