During the first half of the third ten-day period of October, the agrometeorological conditions will continue to be determined by dry weather and temperatures above the climatic norms.
In the wheat and barley stands sown at the beginning of the month, the stages of germination, emergence (agrometeorological stations Novachene and Pavlikeni) and onset of leaf formation will take place, and in winter rapeseed – leaf formation. In many regions of the country, the limiting factor for the development of the stands of autumn crops will be the lack of moisture in the upper soil layers. During the second half of the period, the optimal agrotechnical timeframes for sowing winter cereal crops along the Black Sea coast will commence.
The deficit of soil moisture reserves in the arable layer will hinder the proper execution of deep ploughing of stubble fields, pre-sowing soil tillage of the fields, and sowing of wheat and barley.
The weather will be suitable for surveying winter cereal stands for the occurrence and harmful activity of certain pests – common vole, cereal leaf beetle, cereal flies and aphids. Particular attention should be paid to the areas where monoculture cultivation is applied.
The conditions will be favourable for carrying out phytosanitary activities in permanent crops – removal of dried branches and mummified fruits, scraping of old and cracked bark, and treatment of pome fruit species affected by scab with a 5% urea solution to limit the infection.
