Wine Insurance
From 16 May to 15 June 2022, grape producers may submit applications for the granting of financial aid under measure “Crop Insurance” from the National Support Programme for the Wine Sector (NSPWS) 2019 – 2023.
Grape producers – natural or legal persons, as well as groups and organisations of natural or legal persons, who have insured their crop with an insurance company of their choice, may apply for support.
The measure supports the insurance of crops from vineyards with wine grape varieties. Eligible for financing are insurance risks for natural disasters, adverse climatic conditions (frost, storm, hail, icing, heavy or torrential rain, severe drought) which have destroyed more than 30% of the average yield on the holding.
The financial aid that applicants may receive is up to 80% of the value of the insurance premiums. The maximum eligible amount of the insurance indemnity per unit area, on which the insurance premium eligible for support is calculated, is determined for each financial year by an order of the Minister of Agriculture. For financial year 2022 the maximum amount of the insurance indemnity is BGN 3,640.
Green Harvesting
From 17 May to 27 May 2022 applications are accepted for support under measure “Green Harvesting” from the National Support Programme for the Wine Sector (NSPWS) 2019 – 2023. The budget allocated for financial year 2022 amounts to BGN 950,000. The crisis measure, which is being implemented for the third consecutive year, aims to stabilise the balance between supply and demand in the “Wine” sector.
Under measure “Green Harvesting” the full manual removal of grape bunches while they are still green, before their ripening, is financed. The method used reduces to zero the yields from the area declared for support. The measure may be used by natural or legal persons registered in the Vineyard Register as grape producers. Their holdings must be registered under the Wine and Spirit Drinks Act. Applicants must also have certificates of the right to participate under the measure, issued by the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine (EAVW).
It is important to know that those who wish to receive support under measure “Green Insurance” are not entitled to financial aid under measure “Green Harvesting” for the same financial year. They are also not entitled to funding if they have received support under measure “Restructuring and Conversion of Vineyards” from the NSPWS for areas that fall within a monitoring period.
