Day of the Farmer in Sadovo

For the Institute of Plant Genetic Resources in Sadovo, 2022 is filled with anniversary celebrations. This year marks 140 years since the start of agricultural science in Bulgaria, 120 years since the establishment of the State Agricultural Experimental Station in Sadovo, 120 years since the birth of Acad. Pavel Popov, and 45 years since the experimental station was upgraded to an Institute of national importance.

These anniversaries will also be honored during the now traditional “Farmer’s Day in Sadovo”, which this year will take place on 27 May.

On this day, after the official opening, the demonstration field will be visited, where the following is planned:

- The guests will be acquainted with the conditions for the development of winter cereal crops during this year and with the soil conditions of the experimental field in Sadovo;

- To see in the field all 24 varieties for which the Institute maintains varietal purity and seed production of common wheat, barley, durum wheat, triticale, rye, oats and winter pea, as well as alternative crops such as grass pea, phacelia, flax, millet, einkorn, etc. The varieties will be presented by the breeders of the Institute, who will also answer all questions asked;

- To present demonstration trials in wheat, maize and sunflower for testing the products of the company „Medi Plus R“ – the biostimulant AMALGEROL ESSENCE and the microbial fertilizer NUTRIBIO N, which compensate for nitrogen fertilization;

- For the first year, to demonstrate the newest wheat varieties Nadita, Sashets and Blan;

- For the first time, to present the newest Bulgarian wheat variety Yaizla;

- For the first time, to carry out a demonstration of crop spraying with a drone;

- For the first time, to discuss smart agriculture – the future of our agricultural production.
